North Boulder Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation, LLC has been providing the highest quality of physical therapy care in Boulder, Colorado and beyond for over 30 years. The original facility, at Boulder Medical Center, was established in 1979 by Debra Layne, PT. In 1999, the company opened an additional 6000 square foot state of the art rehabilitation facility in Boulder. It has since expanded to Golden, Westminster and most recently, Louisville.

Debra Layne is originally from Oklahoma and moved to Colorado in 1977. She married a classmate and physical therapist, Ted Layne. She has two sons, Todd and Scott. Ms. Layne, PT enjoys flying as a private pilot, as well as skiing, hiking, reading and travel. She has been practicing physical therapy in Boulder since 1977. She is a member of Rotary and has served on the Board of Directors for Impact on Education.

Medical Training and Specialty: She received her degree from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in Physical Therapy in 1975. In 1992 she was acknowledged as the PHYSICAL THERAPIST OF THE YEAR by the Colorado Physical Therapy Association. Ms. Layne, PT is specialized in orthopedic physical therapy, post-operative rehabilitation, sports physical therapy, work injury rehabilitation, vestibular (balance and dizziness) rehabilitation, TMJ treatment, treatment of headaches, peripheral neuropathy treatment, and orthotics for the feet. She has attended well over 175 post-graduate courses in physical therapy and has lectured and taught courses for other physical therapists. She is a BASI Certified Pilates Instructor.

Professional Affiliations: Ms. Layne is a past-President of the Colorado Chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association. She is currently President of Colorado Physical Therapy Network. Ms. Layne is the Managing Member and Owner of North Boulder Physical Therapy providing therapeutic services at two locations: 3000 Center Green Drive, Suite 110 and at 2750 Broadway in the Boulder Medical Center. With her husband, Ted Layne, PT, she owns Layne Physical Therapy in Golden, CO.

Ted Layne, PT, ATC

Ted is both a physical therapist and an athletic trainer. He started his ATC career at West Texas University (1976-1977). He then became the Head Athletic Trainer for the University of Colorado (1977-1983). Ted founded Flatirons Physical Therapy (1983-1997) and then started DIA Physical Therapy (1997 to present). Ted and Debra Layne are the owners of Layne Physical Therapy in Golden, CO (2000-present).

Ted has served as a trainer for CU, the Olympics, Pro Rodeo, and numerous other groups. He enjoys working with child athletes and has coached baseball and basketball teams.

He evaluates and treats a variety of orthopedic and sports patients at North Boulder Physical Therapy three days a week (2002-present). He specializes in PT for the knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, ankle, neck, back, and post-operative care. Total joint replacement rehabilitation is a special interest. Anodyne Therapy for orthopedic conditions is another new area of expertise for him. Ted evaluates and treats athletes at the University of Colorado Athletic Department on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Ted enjoys seeing his returning patients from Flatirons PT and welcomes new patients.

Dianne comes to Boulder by way of Montana.  She worked in accounting for Kroger for several years before starting her career in Medical office management.  In 1995 she became the front office manager for Flatirons Physical Therapy.  From there she left and opened Flatirons Practice Management LLC with her business partner Ted Layne.

After a successful 13 years she sold Flatirons Practice Management and went into semi-retirement. After four months of being home with her son preparing for him to leave to college, she became a Realtor.  She worked as a Realtor for a couple of years in Boulder.  In 2011 she moved to California, but Chief Niwot’s curse took effect and she returned to Boulder in 2013.

Dianne joined North Boulder Physical Therapy in 2014 as Practice Manager.  She brings over twenty years of knowledge of Medical billing and practice management to NBPT, along with her management and customer service skills.

Seneca Webb Tantum graduated a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Environmental Science at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts in 1991. After working as a geologist for an environmental consultant for several years, she moved to Colorado in 1995. She stayed for the climbing and skiing. While working a wide variety of mountain town jobs including trail crew, house-keeping, and food service, Seneca became inspired to make a positive contribution to her community through physical therapy. To begin her training in patient centered care, she completed a year long program at the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy. In March 2001 she became a Certified Massage Therapist. Seneca graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center in May 2007 a Doctor of Physical Therapy. A life long learner, she is also a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist and has completed Functional Dry Needling training. Seneca also has extensive training in vestibular rehabilitation with a special interest in concussion recovery.

Sabina Busby graduated from Quinnipiac University with her Bachelor of Health Science in 2013 and her Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2016. She uses a holistic approach to movement and wellness in the orthopedic setting with a particular interest in women’s health and the Pilates method of exercise. She is currently pursuing the APTA CAPP Pelvic Health and Pregnancy/Postpartum certifications with the goal of becoming a Women’s Clinical Specialist (WCS). She has two years of experience incorporating the Polestar Pilates method of exercise for both rehabilitation and wellness patients and teaches weekly Pilates mat classes for patients with osteoporosis. She uses evidence based techniques with an emphasis on manual therapies including myofascial, craniosacral, and other osteopathic techniques.

Jeff Paulsen has been a practicing physical therapist since 2010. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 2007. Soon thereafter he began his physical therapy education and graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Colorado in 2010. Kimberlee Axelrod, PT

Physical Therapist

Kimberlee Axelrod has been a practicing physical therapist since 2003. She received her doctorate in physical therapy from Finch University of Health Sciences in Chicago. Her primary clinical work is the treatment of neurological and orthopedic impairments.

Kimberlee has particular interest in the treatment of spine and joint pain, balance and vestibular impairments, chronic pain, and movement disorders. Kimberlee has completed her certification of LSVT BIG, and enjoys helping to improve the functional mobility of patients with Parkinson’s Disease. She is a certified McKenzie therapist and regularly employs the use of mechanical diagnostics to improve outcomes of spine and joint treatment.

Kimberlee lives in Golden, Colorado with her husband, three children, and her dog Bosley. She enjoys spending her free time skiing, hiking, and reading.

Holly received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Louisiana in 1988.  She practiced in rehabilitation and pediatric settings, and has been a hand therapist since 2002.  She was fellowship trained in 2003, achieved certification in Hand Therapy from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission in 2007 and enjoys treating all types of upper extremity diagnoses.  She is a current member of the American Society of Hand Therapists, the American Occupational Therapy Association, and is a Denver Hand Special Interest Group board member.  She grew up in Louisiana and enjoys visiting there, spending time with her family, travel, photography, Pilates, cooking and reading.

Todd has a degree in Kinesiology with and emphasis in Fitness and Exercise from the University of Northern Colorado.  He has worked in outpatient physical therapy clinics for 15 years.  He is a Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist through NASM.  He also holds a certification in Kinesiotaping.  Outside the clinic, he enjoys sports and being outside with his wife.  He is a competitive soccer coach.  He is currently going to Physical Therapy Assistant School.

Certified Hand Therapist and Occupational Therapist

Mary Kaye has been a certified hand therapist since 1991, the inaugural year for certification of hand therapists. Mary Kaye is passionate about hand therapy, and delivers quality care to all her patients. She helps each person in their unique way to regain function after injury. She keeps up with current education and trends in the field. Fabricating custom thermoplastic splints for post-injury and post-surgery is her specialty. She uses a variety of splinting materials and techniques to achieve specific goals: post surgery protection, join implants, fracture care, and arthritic joint support. Mary Kaye is married to Ken, with four children. She enjoys spending time with her family, and outdoor activities. She enjoys staying active and loves to hike, bike, and swim.
